Man brushed by bullet during morning shootout in downtown Hamilton

An innocent male bystander was grazed by a stray bullet during a shootout Monday (May 6) in downtown Hamilton this morning.

Witnesses say they overheard multiple gunshots break out from alleyway near Kingston St. E. and East Ave. N. shortly before 11:15 a.m.

“An innocent bystander was in the area at the time of the shooting and was grazed by one of the stray bullets,” said Hamilton Police.

The adult male victim, who is in his 50’s, was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.

Police say a grey-coloured sedan, like a four-door BMW, was seen fleeing the area at the time of the shooting. It is believed the vehicle was heading eastbound on King Williams St. from the are of Victoria Ave. N.

Police continue to investigate.
